Required Qualifications and Education:
Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology
Minimum Experience Required:
- 5+ years of experience as a Geotechnical Engineering in the fields noted below
- Data management and/or Programming skills recommended
- Real-time geotechnical data analysis
- Team management skills
- Decision-making in complex environments
- Database development and management
- Excellent communication skills
Relevant Industry experience
- Geotechnical and underground works: tunneling, mining, deep excavations
- Data management
Required equipment/instrumentation experience
- Proven knowledge of geotechnical instrumentation (purpose, operation, analysis)
- High level knowledge of instrumentation and monitoring plan design
- High level knowledge of data management software (Excel, Power BI…)
Additional Requirements
- Lead short-term planning and control of instrumentation and monitoring operations
- Conduct quality control of extensive data sets, ensuring database accuracy and proper functioning of the sensors
- Receive and process real-time geotechnical data for decision-making
- Coordination skills to ensure proper execution of project activities
What we offer
The Yonge North Subway Extension (YNSE) is a critical transit infrastructure project that will extend the existing line approximately 8 kilometers north from Finch Station. The planned extension includes the construction of more than 6 km of tunneling five new stations running primarily underground through densely populated urban and commercial areas.
Given the complex urban environment, which includes existing infrastructure, high-rise buildings, and sensitive utilities, the YNSE presents considerable geotechnical and structural challenges. Successful project delivery requires meticulous management of ground behavior and its impact on surrounding assets.
Alava International will be in charge of all the instrumentation and monitoring throughout the project to ensure a safer and smoother project execution. This includes the design of the monitoring plan, supply and installation of the instrumentation, data collection and analysis, reporting and coordination between the stakeholders, designers and operations.
